Good day all. When you use the IRON for long periods what do you like to have the RPM's at?

Drivin' the iron

Eric; On my Bene 40 with a Prima M-50 Perkins, I like 2000 RPM. In moderate conditions this will give me 7 knots, give or take a tenth or so. Larry W.

Expert hearsay

Eric--- I just completed the ASA 101 & 103 courses on a Hunter 290, and was told by my instructor (a certified trainer for the local Hunter dealership) that the ideal cruising RPM for the 290 is around 2300. Any higher than that will not significantly increase hull speed, but will significantly decrease fuel economy. ---Granville, "Colette"

Check Your Manual, Eric : 80% of WOT

..is what the manual recommended for both my 3 and 4 cyl Yanmars. BTW, there can be issues of carbon build up if run for long periods at less than that.
