We are planning on trailering our 1993 h27 to the NE in late August and Early September (2-3 week trip). At this point we are thinking of Narragansett Bay as our destination and would like help from any sources here. Good Marina recommendations (reasonable $$$). Things to see (land or sea) A good cruising guide to purchase or websites. Places to avoid. Side trips to take .... is Block Island or Marthas Vineyard reasonable trips? I have a good dinghy so good anchorage recommendations would help. Any other information would be of help. Sorry this is so general, but I don't know exactly what other questions to ask. We just like the looks of the cruising area. Thanks Ward sv/Tiramisu h27

Narragansett Bay

There are lots of thing to do and see in Narragansett bay. If you want to go to Block Island or Martha's vineyard you'd better make reservations now. More than likely you're already too late anyways unless you go during the middle of the week and anchor out. But, don't worry there is lots and lots to do and see. In August there is the Adam and Eve Folk Festival, big names will be there. You can anchor out and listen to a whole weekend of music. I'll be there! As far as Marina's go, If your military you have it made, the Navy Base is located right next to Newport and always have spare Mooring balls and a deep boat ramp. If not you might want to check out Ponaug Marina in Warwick for launching. There are plenty of anchorages around the bay and Marina's It all depends on what your looking for. I've sailing in Narragansett since 96 and still haven't seen everything as of yet.

Greeting from RI

There is quite a bit to see in RI. Block Island and Marthas Vineyard are both possible on your boat. In addition there are many local coves to anchor and enjoy. If you would like to e-mail me I'll provide any help I can. I sail primarily in Narragansett Bay and its a great place. Newport is a must see as is the Battleship in Fall River Ma all a day sail away. redasilva15@yahoo.com Ron DaSilva Windiz Free II

Here's the cruising guide that you want

Ward, The following cruising guide was recommended to me and I must agree that it is excellent. IBSN # 0070163049 and the exact title: "A Cruising Guide to Narragansett Bay and the South Coast of Massachusetts: Including Buzzard's Bay, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, and Block Island" I seem to recall that it is about $30 and it was published in 1995. Don't let the old date put you off- it is still an excellent guide to all the places to go in Narragansett Bay and the islands that you are interested in. Block Island is a good visit. I would plan to arrive Tue-Thur and anchor or take a town mooring if you prefer that. Moorings are about $30, maybe 35 for a night, launch service is extra. BI is good for at least a couple of days if you have never been there. In 2-3 weeks you will have time to go to Martha's Vineyard. Plan on at least 3-4 days there. I would recommend Vineyard Haven as a good anchorage or for a mooring. You may need a reservation for a mooring- I don't know because I always anchor. Other places to consider stopping- Cuttyhunk and Newport. Considering you are coming from so far away, I would try not to miss anything major. But you will only be able to hit the hi-lights. Email me from the owner's directory if you need more specific information. Rich

Great Help!

Ron, Scott & Rich THANKS! this is a great start and is exactly what I am looking for. Scott, I am a disabled (retired) Viet Nam era veteran. Could you give me any additional information about the military installation. I would be eligible to use their facilities. Ron, I will put those locations on the agenda to see and will email you as I get more questions. Rich, I saw that guide advertised, but didn't know if it was worth a darn. I will get it. Thanks for the other input and I will be emailing you as well. Thanks again Ward
