While sailing on the bay last weekend the wind went from 10 knots down to 3-5 knots. It stayed study and I wanted to sail to my destination instead of motor. I was on a broad reach. In 3-5 knots my cruising spinaker would not fill without heading up. I was only make 1-1.5 knots. I droped the main and was able to sail very deep towards my anchorage for the night. Without the main blanketing the cruising chute my speed picked up to 2.5-3 knots under cruising chute alone. You might want to give this sail combo a try. My initial concern was without a backstay and only a large headsail would mast pumping be a problem. With the light windspeed none was experienced. This would probably not be a good combo in over 10 knots of wind.
