Mike and I had a lovely sail up to the Sheepscot River yesterday and anchored in one of my favorite spots. This was the first place I ever anchored on a cruise in Maine. Mike wanted to go ashore but I remembered seeing a house there so I told him to row around the island/s (one or two depending on the tide) to see if there was a boat docked and stay on the beach.
He returned with a report that makes it an even more favorite place. Spectacle Island is now owned by the Boothbay Region Land Trust and open to the public.
That's Mike rowing behind the tidal neck that connects the two halves of the island. The sun later set behind the trees just to the right of the dinghy.
Due to the poor weather forecast, we decided to make it just an overnight and motored back in thick fog to Portland with a stop during brief clearing to walk on Little Chebeague Island which has recently been opened with trail construction.
