CruiseAir Question

I believe that my raw water pump has frozen. There is no water pumping through the system. The pump gets hot but it is not moving, and with summer coming on quickly I need to replace it. Other than closing the seacock, connecting the new pump, connecting the wiring, and re-opening the seacock, are there any other tips I would need to know for this project? Thanks, Joe S/V Charis

Bleed the Air

Mine requires bleeding the air from the intake side of the pump before it will pump water. The pump is not self priming.

CruiseAire water pump SHOULD be self-priming

I had CruiseAir systems on two boats and many people I know also have CruiseAire systems on both sailboats and powerboats...the water pump was self priming on both my boats and on every other one I've seen. If yours isn't, something isn't right. I suggest you give CruiseAire a call to find out what.

Re: Bleed the Air

Wow! In fact, my installer installed a small valve with a hose that runs to the bilge for purging the air from the intake hose after each haul-out if the intake seacock was left open and the water allowed to drain from the intake side of the pump. It was also one of the items the broker went over with us at delivery. Just bled the system yesterday when I commissioned the AC.

Thanks to all...

I contacted my local marine store, and they do have the pump in stock, and it IS self-priming. The guy I spoke with said replacing it is a no-brainer... Thanks, Joe S/V Charis

Upside Down

Joe, I had the exact same problem and Danny from Lakewood Marine over in Seabrook found the pump was installed upside down. It mounts sideways BUT there is a right side up to it. He turned it over and NO more problems. Should work for you. I will be back in the States next week so I can take a picture of the pump installation. Or just come by Slip 10 Pier 13 at Waterford Harbor and I would be happy to show you. I'm taking the month of June off! And maybe July, and August, and September....

Thanks Mickey

This pump (March Manu) actually does have a mounting plate and has been mounted flat to the bottom of my engine sump. It has been running perfectly for the year we have owned the boat, that is up until this past Sunday evening. In case the orientation does have an affect, I'll try shifting the pump, but I'm afraid it's a goner... Thanks, Joe S/V Charis
