After a day of sailing around Punta Gorda, and a night at the Lashlie Municiple Marina, we set sail south for Cayo Costa and Pelican Bay. It took most of the day to make the 24 nm to CC, and had a great sail down there. At times I flew my "A" chute until the wind clocked from dead astern. Went wing on wing for a while and arrived around 4:00. We nosed her up onto the beach and had a BBQ on our grill, then retired for the night on anchor in the anchorage. Once set up I inserted 4- 1"x12"x6' planks across the settee's to make a central bed. Forward area was converted to store room/head. Rear area became storage. Since my wife is claustrophobic, she needed to sleep under the pop/top and dodger. We relaxed in bed, watched a movie with popcorn and then gently were rocked to sleep. We woke to 12 to 15 knots, cooked up some ham/egg/cheese bagels for breakfast and got underway. We tacked once across Charlotte Harbor, then straight up to Burnt Store Marina Complex. Fixed some roast beef sandwiches on the cockpit table, then got cleaned up. We walked around and bit and talked to folks for a while then went to dinner at Portabello's restaurant. No rocking tonight, as the boat was rock solid all night. The wind filled in early and we had a beam reach all the way to Punta Gorda. We carried full sails for the 12 nm run back up the harbor and hit 40 degree tilt as a few points. We had a great cruise, and the boat performed perfectly. We burned about a gallon of gas total.

Sounds like a great sail and a fun time, how was Burnt Store did it look like all the slips were pretty full. I stopped there last year in Feb checking it out to keep my Hunter 36 for when I move down next year I hope. I'll be spending the whole winter in Port Charlotte this year but boat less, looking forward to sailing in Charlotte Harbor, great looking boat looks like you sure are enjoying your boat while we are all on the hard in NY and sailing is over for most of us. great trip report

We spent a day at cayo casto 2 years ago taking acharter from Sanibel . This is an area I want to sail soon . I have looked online for companies that rent something in the 24 26 foot range and cant seem to locate any . Most of the available boats seem to be in the 30 ft range . I was wondering since your from that area whether you might know of a marina that rents on a weekly basis, thanks Mike

Remember, Day Sail.....

Remember it is a day sail, all you need is sun screen and a cooler of you favorite sandwiches and beer. It was a perfect. Boat not bad, motor ran, new head sail, no roller furling but I didn't need it anyway. Porta Potty on board. Berths did have cushions. I went below and took a short nap while the wife sailed, it was great. The day we chartered, the wind up the harbor was lite. We motor sailed until we got closer to the gulf, where the wind was a little better. It is a huge harbor, and on a day sail, you will just have time to make it to the gulf and back before your return time. Hope this helps.

Charter

Thanks again , it looks like you might be able to do more than just a day sail because they have a rate of 225 for additional day . If time permits it would be nice to do an overnite ay cayo casto and then sail back , Mike ,

Seadaddler..

Looks like they had slips available, and the new Municiple Marina at Lashlie Park in Punta Gorda had signs up. Punta Gorda, should be a lot less expensive then Burnt Store, but its a days sail from the gulf. Then again its not real salty at the mouth of the Peace river.
