Hello, Planning a cruise to Rio Dulce, Guatamala in mid to late November 06. I am having trouble finding boat insurance that will cover me outside continental US waters and the Bahamas. Any of you guys know a source for offshore cruising insurance. Appreciate any feedback on this problem. Don of Shaman

Rio Dulce

Hi Don -- Sailed up Rio Dulce 3 years ago and spent 10 days there. It was lovely and all worked out well. Regarding insurance -- mine requires a special charge and notification of details if I sail in foreign waters. The charge is not prohibitive. Have you tried this with your company? Watch the bar at the entrance to the river from the bay outside of Livingston. We just touched a couple of times but got over without incident. Have a great trip. Henry

Rio Dulce?

Don, I am curious as to why you decided to sail to Rio Dulce? Last week I returned from a cruise on the Carnival Conquest and meet a really nice guy named Alvin that lives aboard on his Beneteau there. He was traveling with family on the cruise and we struck up a conversation and found we were both sailors. We talked about the cruising lifestyle and I told him that next year my wife and I will be heading out for the Carribean on an extended cruise. He talked like he really liked Rio Dulce. Hi Morris & Sheryl, I have had several friends make that cruise. While Rio Dulce is a neat place and well worth the visit, A big part of the attractions is the 120 mile reef off Belize. You can carry 6 feet draft easily thru an inside passage and never leave the reef until you get to Guatamala. That is some of the best winter time sailing and cruising in this hemisphere. Rio Dulce has become a "colony" for cruisers with good accomodations and wonderful varity of natural tropical scenery for a good change of pace. It is also a great hurrricane hole if you want to stay over and extend your cruising into next season. Hope this answers hyou questions. Don of Shaman
