i recently hooked up a cruisair carry on 5000 to the v-berth hatch. i have never used this type of a/c before. i installed the canvas cover over the front section of a/c that hangs over the open hatch, but the problem i'm having is that (1) i don't know if the cover should extend over the top of the hatch to enclose it, or should it be shoved down in front of the hatch cover.(either way) i can not get any kind of good seal to keep rain out(if the cover is water proof) nor can i get what i would consider a seal around the hatch, top and the metal arm that opens and closes the hatch...... any advice will be greatly appreciated

it does work, tricky

I just used mine recently too the canvas goes OVER the hatch cover and everything. I put a coed in where the plastic rods go. tie it completely around bottom of the hatch and make sure the elastic part is snugged all the way up to the body. centered & level, works good

Cruisair Air Conditioner

I also have a Catalina 30 (1983) and a Cruisair Air Conditioner. I too put the cover over the top of the hatch and attempt to make the bst seal possible with the plastic rods. If it is going to rain, I put a plastic sheet over the hatch area (covering the AC and then put the white cover over the plastic sheet. My problem is, if I install it correctly, I get a lot of condensation dripping on the vee birth. It makes for a wet sleep. To avoid getting dripped on, I move the whole unit forward so that the area dripping is in front of the hatch, not over my body. Seems to work but is not installed correctly. Any suggestions?

Weather proofing the Cruise Air

I had the same problem with rain water, condensation, etc. I went to the local Walmart and bought a clear plastic bath mat and a roll of white weatherstriping that was sticky on one side. I put the plastic over the hatch and cut out just enought of the plastic so the air conditioner would snugly fit. Then I used the insulation above and below the plastic mat. No more leaks when it rains and you can't see the weather stripping or plastic. The whole unit pulls out at the same time and stays together.
