When I purchased my Hunter 27, the previous owner threw in a Cruisair 5000 portable AC unit with it. It is meant to be (temporarily) mounted in the bow, over the forward hatch when docked. Since it weighs about 65 pounds, it's a pain to carry it on and off the boat. Any ideas on how to mount it permanently? Or semi-permanently?

I had the same problem. Constantly moving the unit can be tricky and dangerous. Also, on our 1999 H260 it really does not fit well over the forward hatch. I opted to mount the unit in the companionway hatch. With the hatch open, place the unit on the edge with the cold air exiting toward the stern. This will cool the galley and quarterberth, where it is most needed. I cut pieces of plywood to fill in the open hatch. One piece is U-shaped to fit around the A/C and the other fills the remaining opening. When we are not using the boat, the unit sits on the cabin top lashed to the mast. If you would like more details, contact me and I can send them to you. Ralph C. Regar S/V Shambala regars@enter.net

I used to have a 1980 33' Hunter

I mounted the crusie air through the forward hatch. I took some straps and ran them down to the toe rail and attached the with some spring clips. On the inside I attached a hasp and secured it to the inside and placed a lock on the hasp to prevent anyone from trying to walk off with the unit. The roller jib was cut high enough it never interfered with the unit.
