Had a great trip to crroked island...sure could have usde the info that was sent (I asked my navigational questions 1 day before departure...) I ended up following a motorboat through an "entrance" about 200 yards before the real entrance. Sun was going down and I was impatient (not a good thing when sailing) I throttled up the motor to get up speed, pulled up my motor, keel, and rudder and glided through w/o touching. It was about 3 or 4 feet deep...the "entrance" was actually a washout. After anchoring we walked further down the island and found the real entrance with the deep blue water instead of the sandy white. I shoiuld have waited and looked harder for the entrance, but was led astray by my gps which showed a big break where the washout was...when I went out the correct way my gps showed me going through land...should have waited for those gps coordinates and then for a better visual to a entrance, not to mention starting earlier. All in all it was a great trip, the area is awesome. Richard

photo no longer correct

I just looked at the photo in the replies to my first "crooked island entrance". The entrance in the photo is the entrance shown in my gps (and the one I went through) and is now considered a washout. At high tide there was about 4 feet at the deepest part. The "new" entrance is about two football fields west and is MUCH larger (though on my gps it showed me sailing through land. It's amazing how much these barrier islands can change!
