Here is a letter that appeared in the Washington Post today. Ya gotta love Walter....

"Years ago, at a school fundraiser, I had the good fortune to win a lunch with Eric Sevareid, one of the iconic newsmen associated with Walter Cronkite. The best story I heard from Mr. Sevareid concerned Mr. Cronkite himself.
Mr. Sevareid said that he and his wife used to get together often with Mr. Cronkite and his wife, Betsy. On one occasion, the subject of death came up. They were all imagining the circumstances at the time of their deaths. Mr. Cronkite, who loved sailing, proclaimed: "I picture myself sailing on a 70-foot boat with an 18-year-old woman."
At which point, Mrs. Cronkite rejoined: "But, Walter, the way it will actually be is that you'll be sailing on an 18-foot boat with a 70-year-old woman."

I was disappointed that none of the tributes I saw mentioned his sailing life. I know its not what the public knew him for but still ....
If I ever am eulogized I hope they mention the sailing first and then - by the way he used to fix teeth.

The tribute I saw on CBS Sunday night did mention his sailing, and showed tape of him on his boat several times. -Paul
