I am doing a bareboat charter in Croatia in late May and I'm having a problem finding sailing guide information. We are doing a one-way from Dubrovnik to Split for a week. Any Ideas?? Thanks, Bob

Go to a Croatia Sailing bareboat website
and you can look at the islands and where the rental harbors are located. We did some research last year on that and found a wealth of information to download, printout and read. The CW article was nice, but the individual charterers have a lot more information. I chartered in Croatia twice - once for 1 week in 2000 and the second time for 2 weeks in 2001. I was working in Vienna Austria at the time and I purchased a German Cruising Guide which was extremely well illustrated with detail area charts however details were given in German. My German is poor and I tried to get an English guide, however I failed. As it turned out the German Guide worked out fine despite my poor German. I can give you the name of it if you wish. You could probably get it through amazon.de. The internet does have information, the problem is that you have to wade through tons of advertising. When we did the 2 week charter we went from Trogir (just above Split) to Dubrovinik and then back a different route to Trogir. I would suggest our route down the coast which visited various historic towns on the islands. This was: - Trogir (a world heritage site) - where we picked up the boat - we liked Trogir quite a bit more than Split - Hvar (stayed at the ACI Marina in Palmizana) - then the marina at Korchula (said to be Marco Polo's home town) - anchored at the National Park at Mljet (nice hike) - 2 nights - if you are moving rapidly you could work in a stop at Okuklje which is on the southern part of the Mljet island (Okuklje was probably the least interesting stop) - Dubrovnik (also a world heritage site - which you want to spend a couple of nights at. You might want to find a bed and breakfast to do some looking around the Split/Trogir end at the beginning and the Dubrovnik end at the end of your trip. All the above were in sheltered areas among the islands. On the way back we went for several days outside the islands. If go to our website http://www.shimarak.net you will find digital pictures that record the two trips. For the one that you are proposing to do enter our site and then in the menu at the side select 'Sailing' and then select 'Croatia 2001'. It is a terrific place to charter. There are good restaurants ashore every stop mentioned. I suggest you also get a travel guide such as Lonely Planet to tell you what there is to see in the towns/citys.
