The weather is frequently less than desirable where we sail. Consequently the crew, and me too, are often cold. The question I have is this: Do any of you have cabin heat? If so -- I would like details. Thanx in advance garyg

Heat is a must in the Northwest

With regard to "cold" we in the Northwest can understand your problem. If one is going to use the boat very much then heat is a must. Conversely, boat heat can help extend the season and increase utility and help justify the cost. On our H-35 we have had an Ardic 041-D forced air heater (made by Volvo) since around 1992 and it has really helped improve crew morale. It's a 10,000 BTU unit which I feel is appropriately sized for the boat and our weather conditions. I don't think this particular model heater is made anymore but there are similar units available. We just returned from a short one-week cruise and used the heater every day. There are a lot of considerations and if you like contact me off-line using the Owners directory and mention the deails you would like.

I would go with a diesel heater

That far north, I would want something substantial! Maybe even a diesel stove - they put out a lot of BTUs! But at least one of the small wall-mounted units You don't mention the size of the boat, but they come in various sizes. Check Defender

Buddy Heater humidity? Diesel - venting?

Does the Buddy Heater add to the humidity in the cabin? Don't the diesel heater need to be vented to the outside? ...RickM...

Funny at times what you read into titles

For I thought some of the authors might be refering to hugging a "buddy" whilst other titles, to me, perhaps meant that everyone should vent more often. (ie as we say in Australia "Fart") Anyway it was I guess just a comical look at titles to articles.

Automotive-type heat.

I've often thought of installing a heat exchanger/heater core from a car in front of the engine box and circulating engine water through it and blowing across it with a 12VDC fan into the cabin... just like in a car. Seems to me a good little diesel ought to heat up a small-boat cabin. Anyone ever have experience or research with this? (BTW the Dickinson diesel heaters are terrific... a little expensive but a super product and do NOT lap up much fuel at all.) JC 2
