Anyone get a lot of rope creak while grinding in their main/jib sheets? Is this normal? I find heaving in these sheets quite a lot of work and wonder if there's too much friction somewhere. I particularly have problems bringing the boom to centre in preparation for a gybe. Hunter 336, 1996, if that's relevant!

you mean they make a squeaking noise?

Are the sheets relatively new and clean? If you have old and dirty sheets or halyards, they will get a bit stiff. When you grind them, they will squeak. An easy way to get them soft again is to wash them in a washing machine. Take them off and put them in a front loader washing machine. They will come out soft and clean, and will act like new again. Of course, if there is no easy way for you to get the halyards off the boat, and later back on the boat, that will be a toughie. I also wash my dock lines every spring.
