Creaking Companionway Boards

The rocking of our boat with the waves, pleasant and enjoyable in its own right, has the annoying habit of setting off a lot of creaking and groaning that we have traced to the Lexan compaionway boards. It is worst when all four boards are in place and the sliding cover is closed, which puts some downward pressure on the boards. Opening the sliding cover reduces the noise greatly, but doesn't eliminate it. Removing the top board reduces it further, but only removing the second board stops it completely. This seems (??) to be something that has developed over time; we don't recall this during our first few weeks on the boat (April, very cool weather). Anyone have any similar experiences, or thoughts on what this might be? Carl and Jule H340 s/v 'Syzygy'
