couple of different sizes

On my old boat when I broke one I ended up buying both sizes because it's two hours down to the lake from here. I still have both sizes of the slugs. bought too many, It's a good idea to go ahead and replace all of them when you do. Thats what I did with my new boat but they are slides instead of slugs. I'm not sure what size yours is but I think it will be the larger diametor, the small ones I ordered were way to small for a 27ft buccaneer. Tim Welsh H34 AKA Cabo Wabo

I have a similar problem

boat is 1.5 hrs away and I forgot to get everything I needed before I left, now I can't remember what I needed. I plan to replace them all or at least carry several spares. I'm a little reluctant to get the metal ones as I would rather replace the slides than repair the sail.

Sail Slugs

I had to replace all the slugs last year. Had a novice crew and the jibed in a strong wind and swung the boom from full one side to the other and all the slugs went. The problem I had was every other one was sewn into the sail so $80.00 later at the sail loft and back in business. The loft recommended the plastic with a steel insert so I went with the recommendation. They seem to work well. Waiting to see what happpens in a big blow. Should be interesting.

Spray them with Silicone lube

This is sort of an aside but related. I was told to spray aerosol silicone lube up and down the slugs with the sail down. This helps the sail go up and down the track very easily and might possible prolong the life of the slugs by not having them jam in the track and exerting excess force on them. Also, silicone will not collect dust, degrade the plastic slugs or the sail like petroleum based lubrcants. I have only owned my boat for a year but I've done it a few times and it works like a champ.

I might have one for you.

Ashley: I might have one that will fit or you can get them at Sailrite.com. Frank

Hey Frank

Thanks for the offer. I think I will order several from Sailrite and just keep a few spares on hand, just haven't gotten a round to it yet. Maybe I will pick up one of those too. ;D
