Crazy Depth Finder

I have the original Moor Depth Finder on my boat. Now and again it goes whacky giving me multiple zero's to depths of 139. Then a few blinks and its reading normal. I've checked it out with a new transdeucer and it still behaves the same. Question to the knowledgeable. Is this worth having the instrument repaired or is it better to get a new one? New, they are about $275-295, pending who has them in stock.

I had mine repaired and it cost about $125.00 several years ago. You can replace with a fish finder that will give you more info for less than that.

Hi, this is probably not your problem, but mine went nuts once and it turned out that a beer can had rolled up against the transducer in the hold!

I had an old Agua Signal (I think) that did the same thing. Turned out to be corrosion on a connector. Cleaned it all was well.

Just read the replies. Cleaned the RCA jack connector. At the moment its behaving. Lets hope Sailm8's answer resolves the issue. I keep you posted. Thank you all for your input.

Am interested to know whether it is a thru hull transducer mounting or an in hull one as there might be a logical explanation.

(BTW many years ago I was Chief Eng for a Raytheon subsidiary here in England and spent some time at their S. SanFrancisco plant designing a deep sea paper chart recording echo sounder for the fishing fleet down to 600 feet!)
Rgds.
