I have a 95 H26. Since the shrouds attach to u-bolts in the hull to deck flange, would that also be a suitable place to mount additional cleats? I would like two more cleats forward, but don't like the idea of cutting into the side of the anchor well to back up a ceck mounted cleat. Only down side I can see is line diameter might be limited to about 1/2 inch to get around the cleat.
What do you think?

It's Been Done

There was a picture of them out there somwhere in the old Photo Forum. If you put blocks under the cleats you can get them higher. A round piece of SS stock about 3/8" diameter would make a good backing plate. If you could get a machine shop to tap it out for the screws to hold the cleats it would be ideal.

Additional Cleats

I added two additional cleats to my 23.5 a couple of years ago. I posted the project to the forum but most of the article was lost when the forum was updated. I have the original pictures but not the text. I used !/4" aluminum flat stock as backing plates.

Bilgewater,

Try discoutsteel.com to get your stock. I'm looking into new backing plates for my motor mounts and ran across the site. You can order almost any size you need. On a boat, anything worth engineering is worth over-engineering!
