My holding tank is pushing the waste back into the toilet. I replaced the Joker Valve 6 months ago. The tank is bloated. I opened up the deck cap and air pressure escaped but the tank is still bloated. The access door for the tank, in the shower, will not close because the tank is so bloated. Any suggestions?

You might have to remove the tank and replace with a new one. Not going to be a good project

Sounds like a plugged vent. The tank must be vented to allow the air to pass out as liquid is pumped in. Hopefully is is just bowed elastically out and once the vent is cleared on the outside of the hull it may relax back after a couple days.

I had some spiders take home in the vent and plugged it. What a place to pick for a home.

Good luck....

Have you tried pumping it out? You may get lucky and get the crap removed...

Craig,

Hope your sailing season has been great so far.
How do you keep the vent clear? I have tried pipe cleaners, but not sure the best way.

While that vent is good at keeping bugs out, it keeps the crap in- and clogs it. I upped the size of my vent after reading over on the "heads" forum about the theory behind it. Went from 5/8 hose- and that screen vent- to a 1.5-inch hose with a mushroom-type thruhull. With this, you can shoot water into the vent from outside to clear it.

Yeah, pump it out and run alot of water through the head&tank while pumping. And change that vent thruhull, if not to something bigger, to something with no screen. And perhaps the tank discharge fitting is blocked?
