Cranking battery ground cable replacement for 1gm

IM having intermittent starting issues. From all I can gather it's a bad ground. I'm sure the cable is original.

My question: have any of you changed the grounding cable before? Mine is attached to the aft, starboard engine mount bolt. I don't want to create an alignment problem trying to fix a grounding problem.

Are any of your 1gm's grounded to a more convenient location?

I posted in propulsion, but got no response.

Thanks

Joe

Mine was originally installed on an engine mount bolt as well. When I re-did the wiring to the engine I ran the ground wire to one of the starter motor bolts.

What are the symptoms? Just curious.

Intermittent low power when I push starter button. Usually I get a click noise. I let off the button and try again and it cranks great. Usually worse after sitting for a couple of weeks. When I sail a lot it never happens.

FYI, I had that problem and it was the solenoid. Had the starter rebuilt and it fixed that problem.
