Today I looked at a 1977 8.0C for sale in Orlando, I like the boat and alreay made an offer. this particular boat has the shoal draft keel, but at the nav station I saw a crank for some sort of winch.

Is this for a centerboard?

A price list from 1978 lists the centerboard as an option.

Please help me out. this is likely to be my first boat.

Woodster is right. If it's just a metal handle that looks almost like a winch handle, it's a good chance it is for hand cranking the engine. My Yanmar 2Qm15 came with one, but it sits so low in the bilge you couldn't use it.

I read your post wrong I suppose. I thought you actually had a winch down below.

My bad.......
