No Slings
Ray,No, the yatch club forbids the use of a sling due to past accidents were slings slipped. When this has happened in th past both the boat involved and the dock were damaged. Plus anyone operating the crane or on the dock at the time is in danger. They require lifting cables attached directly to the boat. On my Venture 17, I had direct access to the internal cross member bulkhead and was able to mount the lifting cables at the center of gravity. One on each side near the center line. Two additional cables were then rigged to the provide lateral stability. This lifting rig allowed me to lift with the mast up since the center of gravity and thus the lift point is aft of the mast and the lifting lines were on either side of the boom.On my MacGregor 22, the inner hull liner prevents direct access to the cross member bulkhead. Thus I need a different mounting approach. The lifting cables are 1 1/2" nylon cables. Steel cables are frowned upon since they can snap if placed under sudden stress.
