crane boat weight vs. theoretical boat weight

Yeah, But,

Now, the royal barge has capsized, sending elephants, spheres, cushions and potato chips to the bottom , all the while, trapping air in the hull. It still "weighs" the same but the weight of the water displaced is less. It's that bouyancy thing, again. I'm not an engineer, but cross the tracks occasion!

Catalina specs seem to be less exacting,

It seems to me that Catalina has not bothered to change their specs as they change the boats (or maybe they feel that accentuating the minimums will make the boats more attractive to buyers). We trailer our C27, giving us the oportunity to utilize several differant highway vehicle weight scales. Despite the advertized displacement weight of 6850 lbs our 1980 C27 weighs in at 7400 lbs plus trailer weight, also the draft, advertized as 4' in reality is 4' 6". I have measured the draft on several boats of different years and come up with the same answer. I would be most interested if anyone has an explanation of these differances (without pachyderms please).
