We have recently purchased a 1987 Hunter 37 located in Toledo Beach, MI. Since we sail out of Winthrop Harbor, IL we are planning to sail her home in July. We want to truck the Cradle home instead of just leaving it there. Does anyone have an idea of where to get a trailer that can handle it. I have yet to get the weight & dimensions, so if you know that it would be helpful as well. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks in advance.

Cradle transporting......

I needed to get the cradle for my 84 30 footer from Chicago to St.Louis and its dimensions were 5 ft. X 10 ft. and weighed approx 700 lbs. I offloaded a lightning sailboat from its trailer and used it to transport. Yours is a bit larger and probably weighs a little more, so you may have to use the trailer from a larger boat. Tie it down securely. Good luck. Eric on S/V Troon

rockin' the cradle

When I hauled my cradle for my 33.5 I rented a tandem axle flatbed trailer, the type you would use to haul a car. Better to have it too big than too small. I don't know the size of the 37 cradle.

Transporting Cradle

Our 37.5 cradle is 17 ft.long and I forgot how wide, but it's wider than a car. I found the yard where we were going to winter the boat had a very reasonable one way per mile fee to get our cradle. I decided by the time I included rental, gas, and lost work it was cheaper and a lot easier to let them haul it. You have all summer to let them get it so check it out, it may be worth your time also. By the way, congrats on your new boat! Dan Arsenault Serendipity Too

Solution for a Sad Cradle

All of these poor lonely cradles. They sit all alone for the whole season while their "riders" are out having fun on the water. What every cradle secretly wishes for, but can't express to their owners, is that they'd love to have a twin brother or sister sitting next to them, so that they could talk quietly together. So, if you want to treat your new cradle right, I have a lonely cradle for a 37 sitting in Buffalo that I'd be willing to part with. On humanitarian grounds, of course. And the right price. Remember the line from the song "two heads are better than one". And a happy cradle will caress its boat lovingly during the long winter season.

A snow mobile trailer

A nice, flat trailer would be a snow mobile trailer. I'm sure there are some around you up there in the wild north :)
