I need to slip my B323 (built in the US) and this will be the first time since I bought her. Can I use a cradle where the weight of the boat is on the keel as it comes out of the water or should I use a sling to lift it out.

In relation to your question, do you have both options available to you...?
Personally I would rather haul out using a sling (my opinion only) I have had my 361 out for the second time since I purchased her and this would be my preference, I feel it is kinder to the structure as when cradled there is more support points than keel supported only. I hope the weather is kind to you while she is out of the water.

Both ???

In my patch of the world, where the water gets kinda stiff in the winter months, we pull our boats and store them on the hard for 6-7 months a year.

I prefer to pull the boat with a sling, clean the bottom and store it on a cradle. The contact points for the sling and cradle are different so you get access to the entire hull for cleaning & painting.

Likewise in our neck of the woods, boats are typically hauled out using slings with a Travel Lift and either set in a custom cradle or on stanchion supports.I have seen c crane used in other localities a

No difference in support between the "cradle" and hoisting it in a pair of "slings."

Only situation where all the weight is on the keel is if it is hauled out on a marine railway. That's where the hull rests on the keel (sometimes also with a poppet under the bow just in case there is a tendency for it to fall forward) and it is held against padded uprights on the "rail car" when it's pulled up the sloped tracks.
Any boat should have zero problems resting on its keel, at least for a day while it is removed and blocked up with the weight distributed over several jack stands - probably three on each side with about half of the weight still on the keel for longer term yard work.

Thanks for the replies, I have a slip/railway line with cradle (sitting on keel and balanced fore and aft) available at the yacht club and travel lift (at another location about 26Nm away) carried to a cradle for the bottom to painted. She will only be out of the water long enough for the anti foul to dry.
And the weather up here is fine nice 26c days and cool 18C nights

Thanks again

If you get to the point the boat is sitting on the keel, tighten the keel bolts.

Hi Ron,
Is this something that needs to be done on a regular basis. I have no water in the bilges, they are bone dry, have been since I bought her.

Cradle or Sling

On thing to rember when lifting using a crane and slings-you should be using spreader bars on the slings to prevent undue compression loads on the side of the boat.
We have been launching and retreaving our Tanzer 26 and now our Beneteau 321 for over 30 years with this method.

This happend last year.

It looks like the crane operator didn't extend one of the legs because some cradles were in the way. The result
