Just bought a 1985, 28.5 - my first boat! Does anybody have a drawing for a cradle for this particular model or hull drawings showing recommended support locations that I can give to a local fabricator. It will be the first 28.5 for the club so there are no "go-bys" locally. My boat is nearly 5 hours away and will be delivered in spring 2005 via road transport service and I need a cradle ready for when it arrives. Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Why use a cradle

All the weight is on the keel anyway. Just use stands to prop it up. The marina will give you them for free. Can can also buy them from Boat US.

local "go-by"

Dale Congratulations on the purchase of your 28.5. I presently have a Hunter 31 but had owned a 28.5 a few years ago. My old 28.5 is at the Saint John Marina and sits on a wooden cradle that I had built by the marina. I wasn't too pleased by the quality of the cradle but it still serves the purpose for the new owner. Would you be building out of steel or wood? Maybe you could get some measurements from this 28.5. I am also curious as to what club you will be joining. I keep my boat at the RKYC and also have a membership at Martinon Yacht Club.

Where to buy cradle in Canada

I have a hunter 28.5 it sits on a metal cradle. In canada I would not use stands due to the ground movement of heavy frost and thaw in the spring. Most of the cradles at our club are from The Marine cradle shop in Markham Ontario. (905)294-3507 they are folding type for shipping, I do belive the cost to be about $800.00 my e mail is in the directory of owners on Hunter site. Hope this helps

Local 28.5

Thanks all for the input thus far, Steve do you know the name of your old boat - I think I will go check it out. I was considering having Saint John marina build a steel cradle, they will likely also do the road transport from Rockland, ME. I will likely join RKYC due to the fact I live close to it and I have been crewing for races(Wed. night)out of there for the last 4 years. I have also contacted Hunter for cradle help but to no avail as of yet. I am suprised that hull line drawings are not readily available.

Boat name

Dale I believe my old boat is called Osprey and is at the SJ Marina. What boat were you crew on race night? I have been sailing on Wolf for some years now. Feel free if you have anymore questions or my number is in the book if you want to call.
