I have a 1994 Hunter 23.5. A lot of the cockpit surface has a molded in non skid surface. If there is a flaw in the Hunter 23.5 it is that there is to much flex in the really broad cockpit. How does one fix a gel coat crack in this non skid surface? Thank You, Al Beattie ElseWhere

Thanks Ted

I checked with the customer I know and he said that the decking ws done professionally (sprayed) using two-part interlux with grit that they provide. About 5 years of more ago I saw an add for non-skid using rubber chips in some sort of flexible binding. La Donna also replied to a non-skid question about a year ago doing a paint/girt deck herself. I still think that tw-part paint is the way to go so as to be able to use solvent or IG for severed cleaning. I visited a Nuclear Sub about a year ago at Pearl Harbor and they have great non-skid. I guess it is time to start researching all of this now! Thanks Jim W

A thought on non-skid

I have be wondering about the possibility of using a product called RHINO which is advertised for truck beds. It is suppossed to be very tough and more durable than plastic liners. It is sprayed on the truck bed and has a non-skid pattern and supossed to have very strong abrasion resistance. Anybody familiar with this product?

Interesting article

The latest edition of Good Old Boat has a very interesting article by Don Casey on redoing decks. He recommends the two part poly. Good luck.

Nuclear sub nonskid?

Many, many years ago I served on a large boat, the USS Forrestal. You wanta' see some nonskid, how about acres of it on the flight deck and hanger deck? The stuff was "slippery when wet" and came off the steel decks in large quantities once it became cut. A lot of time was spent in port repainting for the next ops. Well it happened that a fellow sailor was from Cleveland and his father-in-law owned a paint company. Guess what his main product was? Yep, nonskid. Mainly sold to factories. So Jim and I were on a mission to sell this to the Navy. They let us paint a section by the island where it was constantly being chipped up from throwing the heavy wheel chocks. It wore like iron and was a great nonskid, never got slippery. Did the govt. buy it? No way, some congressman's brother-in-law made whatever it was they were using. All these years(40) later I'll bet that's what is on that submarine. :)

More non-skid info needed.

I will check out the Good old boat mag article. The submarine non-skid intrigues me. I bet the manufacturer gave money to election funds! However the new stuff does seem to work and I will try to find where they got it. Of course manurfacturing a new boat makes molded in gelcoat non-skid or rolled on non-skdi more cost effective. I am researching for an article so please send all the info you can! Thanks Jim W
