Cracked bow on a 260

When I tighten the forestay a fine crack (about 1/16th)appears in the gelcoat about 3/4 inch down from under the deck hull join. The crack is about an inch long so it sort of starts on the starboard side goes around the front of the bow ending on the port side of the bow. Am thinking that I will need to get right up inside the bow and try to glass in some kevlar or like material. Any advice appreciated.

Not sure how to repair this

Wonder if I can still sail untill I get time to get it repaired??

I might worry.

If that is where I think it is, then it can't be good (but may not be that bad). IF the crack extends into the glass then I would loosen the rig AND not sail until repaired. If it's just gel coat it may or may not need to be reinforced. I would think not just by the crack, but near the rolled up flanges at the hull deck joint as they would have to flex (??unduely??) in order for that to happen. In my 26, the joints by the shrouds, and more so by forestay ARE flexed up a few degrees, but not enough to cause a crack like that. Then again, the size of (all possible dimensions) a gel coat crack may not always be indicative of true underlying problems. What's the tension on your shrouds? It's a little hard to judge by a photo alone. alan
