Crack in outside hull

The other day I was checking out my Hunter 140 boat after the winter. I just noticed a crack in the starboard outside of the hull that goes from the edge of the deck all the way around the exterior and stops just before the keel center board casing (closest to the bow).

I have not had a chance to take pictures of the crack, but it looks all the way through the lamination and it is at least 2 feet long and it is obviously below the waterline. The crack is just in the middle of the boat.

I wanted to post this in the forum and ask for feedback. I am wondering if is worth to fix the crack. I did some research, and you have people that suggested do it professionally and others that is an "easy" job using simple materials such as fiberglass cloth tape and leaving the bump.

Any suggestions? Thanks

Yes you should definitely have this done professionally. Especially if you have never done it yourself ever. Don't make this your test case.

Isn't that one of the models with an ACP hull? If so, it's a known problem. They can't handle temperature extremes and are prone to cracking. You can find info on how to repair it in the boat-info section for your boat (in the downloads section) if you want to try to repair it yourself... otherwise take it to someone who can do the work.

Cost?

Thank you for the replays. Based in your experience, how much should I expect to pay for a repair like this? I know is hard to know without knowing more about, I am just wondering if is worth to fix it when I am planning to get a new boat.
