Try These Two Yards . . .
Justin, San Diego has a limited amount of boatyards and this time of year they are all fairly busy. Two places to try:I think it's called the "Southwestern" or "South Bay" boatyard in Chula Vista (in the Southwest corner of San Diego Bay). A friend said, about a week ago, they quoted him $600 for haul-out, pressure wash, light sanding, and bottom paint. Your keel work and whatever else would, of course, be extra. Another option is "Baja Naval" in Ensenada, Mexico. If you want to turn the whole thing into a mini-adventure this boatyard is about 60 miles south of San Diego. They have a website at www.bajanaval.comI e-mailed them (about six months ago) and they quoted me (if I remember right) $700 for bottom paint on my C-27. However, their labor rates are just $15 per hour per man. So you may wind up saving after considering the prices of the other work you need done. One thing about Baja Naval is that while the labor is cheaper any parts or paint can cost you a tad more. I've talked to three or four people who've had work done there and they were all satisfied. And you can stay on the boat during the work, something not always possible in San Diego. Good luck and let the rest of us know how you make out. Nick "Julia Bell" C-27 #86
