CQR Anchor question

I have a 35 pound CQR and am very happy with it on my O'day 35. My question is it doesn't sit very well on the bow roller and because of the hinge it flops around causing wear on the roller. What do you recommend for securing this anchor to stop the motion when under sail. It has to stay on the bow roller because it doesn't fit anywhere else. Thanks, dave

CQR

Hello Dave, You probably have rollers too small to allow the hinge on your CQR to pass through. The anchor should sit back far enough that the plowshare presses against the roller. If you're like most people with a CQR the hinge stops at the roller and the rest of the shank and the plowshare extend forward. This allows the plowshare to swing back and forth on the hinge. This also carries the anchor too far forward and may affect the moment of the hull; especially if the anchor is oversized. The best solution is to have rollers large enough to allow the hinge to pass through. Have you thought of a Kingsprit for your O'Day? The rollers are 3" wide and easily allow the hinge of a 35# CQR to pass through. When stowed on a Kingsprit CQR anchors sit with the plowshare against the roller and the anchor doesn't rock. Thanks for your question, Tim
