Hello to all,
I am trying to replace the engine cowl vent on my 1989 Cat 30. The one I pulled off is all metal and would like to put the same back on. The vents on Catalina direct are metal and plastic, but I would prefer to get the original. Does anyone know who makes these vents.
Thanks, Russ

Russ, they're a common item and CY buys them in volume from the same guys as CD and WM. Just buy what fits. Ours starting getting dull, and I kept trying to keep up with it. Lovely words from The Admiral: "I like the patina finish, stop trying to shine 'em up!" "Aye, aye, sir," I graciously replied.:)

Funny how this should come up.. I am replacing the vents on my 270 this year.
The OEM's are plastic and I want to go to the newer metal ones. After talking
to Robert at CY, I found out that my plastic vents have a cutout of 3 5/8" whereas the newer chrome vents have a cutout of only 3" od. This is due
to the fact that one the hose is clamped and the other the hose is threaded INTO the vent assembly.

I found a Perko chrome vent that is nearly the same size as my plastics ones with the same cutout. Yea!
But for the life of me, I cant figure out how to remove the old plastic vent housing without tearing up the surrounding gelcote as it appears that they are 5200'd in........:(
Tips would be appreciated!!!
Thanks
Doug

Hi Doug, try a roto zip around the inner perimeter. I had good luck using one to remove a thru hull transducer which was permanently bonded with 5200

I was unhappy with the discoloration of my plastic ones, which (I assume) were originally the same white as the hull. I personally prefer the smoother look of an inconspicuous vent to shiny chrome that seems to draw attention to their presence. It seems the bigger plastic ones do a better job covering the vent hole from view. I fortunately found they slid up and off their mount quite easily. When I got a clear, calm and warm day this spring, I sprayed them with two coats of white appliance paint, and the result looks great (at least to me). :)
