I am about to acquire my first boat that will need a slip. 28 foot sail boat with a lot of brightwork. My question is; what to do to protect the finish? Many boats in the marina have covers made for the brightwork only, while some others have covers that go over the whole boat. Is there an advantage in one over the other? Thanks for any help, George

...will definitely save you a bunch of work. You will still need to top off a coat yearly or so since it still gets some sun. Worth it unless you intend to put a topping coat on every four to six months (which may not be so bad). As for a full cover... not so sure. Big expense and big PITA to put on and off. Don't see many boats with them. I would consider one if I had a Choey Lee Lion or Kettenburg maybe... Rick D.

Jim's right, make sure....
...you have a slip. My understanding is the Long Beach city marinas have nothing available for boats under 30 feet and they have a huge renovation project planned that will limit availability for all sizes. I don't see the need for a full cover in SoCal's mild climate. If they were necessary in this area you'd see more of them.
