Several recent posts about rain water in the fuel have caused me to wonder about some sort of cover of the fuel fill. I occassionally check the integrity of the o-ring but it could fail without notice. Has anyone come up with a good way to cover the diesel filler on the newer Hunter models - the ones with the sloped hull sections aft? I have a 2000 H340.

Thanks

I don't have an answer for your cover, except to keep a spare set of O-rings handy. Hunter and other manufacturers change their boats constantly, I think that one of the best features of my 83 H30 was the fact that they put the fuel filler in the inside corner of the aft lazzarette. When you open up the lid, it's right there, completely covered from any water, yet fuel can't spill into the lazzarette. It also can't be confused with the water or waste fill. I think that someone needs to take all of the really good design features from every boat and design a perfect boat. (If there is such a thing)

John: I suggest that you lube the oring every year and change it out every 2-3 years if you are concerned. I have changed mine every few years jus for that reason.

Fuel fillers, caps and even the filling nozzles are of such bad designs tat are prone to leaks, water intrusion and fuel spills.
Gas pumps for autos have vapor capture system, I think the whole marine filling system should be redesigned from scratch.
