Got a couple rolls of tape intending to redo the cove stripes but after getting the old ones off decided I liked it better without. So far most of my dockmates agree.

What did you discover was the best way to remove tape?

I like them on and maybe the next owner will too? May want to keep the rolls just in case.

RE: response/question from onecoolair,

We have used a heat gun carefully to remove tape and stickers. Use care and keep the heat ahead of where you are removing the tape. Sometimes a painter's tool is useful because it shouldn't gouge like a razor blade scraper might.

That looks pretty nice. Actually makes the boat look bigger.

Heat guns do work well but can easily burn the gelcoat if you are not careful. A much safer and just as effective solution is to use a hair dryer.

The topsides are rather tall. The cove stripes break it up and give the appearance of a lower profile. In my opinion the cove stripes improve the appearance of the boat and I would not remove them. But it's not what I think that matters. Calibrate your eye and see what you like. New cove stripes can always be added. Pat

Just depends on your tastes. I like it with the stripe. Maybe because that's the normal look.

Before taking delivery back in 2005 of our C-310 I took off the silver cove stripe leaving only the blue one. We definitely liked it better than the double sliver/blue cove. Also inserted the name into the stripe not below it and it felt less cluttered....

I tend to agree with Mike. Stripes high up on the topsides (or just a stripe in the singular) tend to visually elongate the lines of any boat in the horizontal direction. The boat looks more sleek and longer. Just the opposite of fashion. Since most people have more height than width (whereas most boat's hulls have more width than height), clothes with horizontal stripes/accents make a person look shorter and wider. (Might still be OK if you are 6'4" and 160 lbs. But probably not the best choice if you are 5'4" and 160 lbs.)

Or even a car. I have a funky-to-many Scion xB (the most favorite vehicle I have ever owned by the way). When I added a couple of horizontal strips along the sides, the car just looked a whole lot better to me than the original OEM unadorned slab side. (pic attached)

I found that using a wall paper steamer is the BEST method that I have used. The hair dryer/heat gun is really not that easy of a method.

If the vinyl is very thin/checked from the sun the "Eraser" that goes on a drill work okay too.

The 3M Stripe Off wheel is by far and away the easiest tool to use for removing stripes, names decals etc.. If you are careful and go slow there will be no damage to the paint or gelcoat. I removed the name on our transom last spring in all of about 4-5 minutes with zero damage to our Awlcraft 2000 finish... The stripe on our C-310 was removed in about 7-10 minutes per side.....

I second the three m wheel just used one two weeks ago and it only took minutes to remove the name in our boat. Picked it up at an auto body supply it was about 35 bucks worth every penny!!!

The tape is a 3/4 dark blue with a thin blue (1/4 inch) above, Catalina circa 199x to 2002. Think I'll keep the tape for the next owner.
I like single blue stripe, looks clean, I'm leaving it blank for now, at least till the weather cools.
