Courageous or Crazy?

This guy plans to cross the Atlantic in a one meter long boat. Sounds crazy but the boat looks like it is really well built and may actually survive the journey. Not sure about the man. I can't imagine being in that tiny space for 90 days, or even one day o_O

Wow!

the boat looks pretty stout, but can’t believe he can store enough food, water, supplies, gear in that thing, plus himself.

60-90 days would be a long time in that little capsule.

Crazy would be my vote ;-)

Will he be at sea the whole ninty days? He's leaving from Newfoundland the longest leg would be to Greenland, less than four hundred miles away. Then along the coast until a jump to Iceland. From there, it's not that far to Scotland.

Really, he doesn't need more than a month of supplies on the conservative side. Unless he forgets to put a plastic card in his wallet.

That pretty much meets my personal criteria for crazy. He's subjecting himself to deprivation and danger for what...bragging rights?
The people that are driven to attempt adventures like this are wired different from the rest of us. I don't think bragging rights is the real motivator, more the desire to push the limits of the possible. He says he is not satisfied sitting around protected by the conveniences of the modern world. Deprivation and discomfort don't appear to dissuade him at all from realizing his asperations.
In a way we all have a bit of this. Sailing has some inherent discomfort, this guy just takes it to an extreme. He is certainly different from your average Joe.

He obviously is only planning on sailing down wind, hopefully he has a drogue for strong opposing winds.

I haven't seen any solar panels, I wonder how he plans to navigate and communicate with the outside world.

Maybe not. He does plan to follow the Tradewinds to Cornwall, but he's a sailmaker and that boat has a lot of lateral resistance. Perhaps he plans to fold the two halves together for reaching. I can't see that he'd get much windward performance though.

Wait for it.... Someone is going to slather themselves in goose grease, stick a big cork in a place the sun don't shine, and dive into the ocean in hopes of being the first human cork to float across the sea.

First possible contestant...

It might be like uncorking a champaign bottle after shaking it for an entire ocean passage.

Not exactly the christening we typically think of around boats.

Uncork the bum port at the end of the swum course. Watch out for some source of bun burst. It's the fun curse.

Drifting across in a barrel -- without any sails or power -- has already been done: French man arrives in Caribbean after crossing Atlantic in giant barrel. Jean-Jaques Savin went from the Canaries to the Caribbean. This 1m sailing stunt is just that. Could someone else try it in a boat that was shorter, but wider than it was long? .5m X 4m? Who would hold the record for the shortest boat to sail transatlantic then?

That barrel is palatial compared to the 1m sailboat

Says he's going to eat "protein paste" slathered on the inside of the hull so it'll be a giant can of potted meat product with a goofy human center, waste removal seems problematic.

Sounds like a very poor diet. And what happens to that “protein“ when it gets damp and ages?

That's what I thought at first but it seems his wife is making portioned packets he is going to pack into the sides of the interior. There is a picture on his Facebook page that shows the interior and the watertight compartments along either side and under the "accommodations".

One thing I always see missing from any list of equipment and supplies in preparation for long ocean voyages is vitamin supplements. It doesn't take long for scurvy to develop in the absence of vitamin C, and it also doesn't take long to cure it with vitamin C supplements. Every life raft should include a year's supply of multi-vitamins. They will help slow some of the effects of starvation.
