Hi Rick. During the Red Bull air races in SAN, we (about 100 boats or so) were all anchored right off the end of the cruise ship dock. We hear the horn and low and behold out comes one of the big ones. It gets pretty close to the boats. The coasties have a few watchers weigh anchor for safety. Next, the cruise ship does a pivot turn with its bow thrusters and proceeds to get under way. Right in the middle of it all! Very impressive thing to watch. Those must have been some big winds in that crash.
On a side note, saw that you are signed up for the big race! I have had my cruising prop on all year (three bladed fixed), and decided what the heck. Just gonna leave it on. I gave Anita a call at SCPHRF. See what is does to the handicap cause we are gonna be slower. Hope we have some wind again. Will look for ya.
Cheers
