Cost to Refinish 60' Aluminum Mast

Hi, Could use a little help from some of you more experienced sailors.
I recently purchased a 32' Endeavor. I would like to get the mast and boom refinished. The mast is about 60' and the boom is 14'. All the hardware and rigging looks good, just need to get the mast and boom refinished. Anyone had this done before or know the cost for labor to strip and apply Awlgrip? Any help would be greatly appreciated.......

Just trying to get a ballpark figure so I know that the price is fair. I did get a quote for $1800 labor only. This doesn't include removing or reinstalling the mast though. Does this price seem fair, or should I look elsewhere?

Seems cheap to me. Cheap enough so that I might wonder if they can do it to a high standard for that price. As I understand it Awlgrip isn't easy to prep for overcoating, which might mean removal - i.e. a lot of expensive labor. But, I'm not in that business and others on this forum are so I would defer to them.

Sorry, misread OP. The mast has not previously been painted.
I did my Ranger 29 mast with Interlux one part epoxy and the Rx'ed primers in my backyard one winter. Results were very satisfactory to me. But it was lots of hours of prep, painting, turning over, re-prep, repeat until done. A lot of labor still. $1,800 still doesn't sound that high for a quality job.

if you can get it to North Carolina you can have it refinished by Charleston spars and it may not be that high ...heres the but ...getting it there and back is going to be the deal breaker unless you are very resourceful....

Easy enuff to do yourself. You need to be extra fussy in prep and priming,as not much adheres well to aluminum except aluminum primer .

Thanks for all the great advice guys. I may just try it myself. Can I use a caustic stripper like Klean Strip and not damage the aluminum to remove the existing paint, and finish up with sandpaper on a DA? Also, can I etch it with some type of acid, or use a self etching primer? Again, thanks for all the input.

You can use a one part epoxy paint such as Interlux Brightside.... but I have seen fantastic results with the 2 part such a Interlux perfection. It's not realy that hard...once you get the roll and tip method sorted out and understand how temperature affects dry time. Your biggest challenge will be dropping the mast and locating it in a proper work space.http://www.jamestowndistributors.com/userportal/show_product.do?pid=1439

Brightside and Easypoxy are both 1 part polyurethane paints.
The durability of a 2 part polyurethane is FAR superior to the 1 part paints.
