My local Hunter dealer has a 99 260 with wheel steering, marine head, trailer, upgraded fabric interior and sternrail seats. He is asking $34,900 with an added on bimini. Does this sound reasonable? I really thought the 26/260's were around $25,000 but I'm not sure. The dealer says the trailer is $2850, marine head $500, stern rail seats $800, fabric upgrade $300, bimini (SS) $800 all plus $1100 freight. I will furnish my own outboard. All opinions are welcome.

As a Fan

of older boats, I would suggest you consider what the same amount of money might buy on the used market - unless of course you are set on something new. If maintenance is a question, you will be maintaining a boat in any case. You just might get more boat for the buck.

Right on Track

Got my 1999 H260 in March. Prices seem about the same that I payed for mine. Only paid $550.00 for the bimini. Send me you e-mail address and I send you a copy of my purchase agreement. pstreameng@aol.com

260 Cost

Your quoted price is right inline. The $25,000 you are thinking about is for the boat with nothing much for extras, not even sure if they give you a paddle for that price ;-) Got mine in April and the price is about the same. Jim SV Java

Look harder...

I bought a 1997 H26 with wheel with pedestal and speed, depth, wind indicators, and auto pilot. Stearn rail seats, Bluhplunct CD, VHF radio, cockpit cushion, fenders, 8 HP motor with elec starter and power boat style controls, a startin battery, and two storage batteries, shore power wit charger and converter, plus alot of little stuff, all for $23,500. The boat was in immaculate shape, except for a stress crack here and there and a scratch or dent here and there. The boats don't differ much except for the shape of the transom between 94 and 2000 26's. They all sail the same and that's why we buy em.. Good luck. Just don't be too impatient.

Have you considered a previously owned boat?

When selling their boat, most owners will throw in goodies that a dealer would probably charge extra for. My 88 H23 came with trailer, outboard, bimini, sail cover, extra 12V battery, compass, VHF, depth sounder, two air horns, marine charts, swim ladder, spotlight, two decent anchors, 400 ft of 1/2-inch anchor rode, cockpit cushions, mosquito canopy, stereo and speakers, six fenders, two boathooks, four oars, extra winch handles, extra fuel cans, hand tools (including a Leatherman), a bunch of fuses, wire and other electrical spares, lots of cleaning supplies and a set of swim flippers that actually fit. I didn't mention the PFD's, visual distress signals, fire extinguisher and porta-potty because Hunter usually includes those in their Cruise-Pac. OK, the outboard was shot, and I ended up buying a new Nissan 8hp. The exterior woodwork and side windows (one was cracked) still need attention. I replaced the running rigging, got a new windex and applied new bottom paint. Total cost, including the outboard was about $7500. If you can deal with the hassle it may be worth your while. In my case, I was just plain cheap. In the final analysis, it really doesnt matter how you get on the water, just as long as you get there! Good luck!! Peter S/V Raven

260 cost

Like the others the cost is very on line. I have all of those features and love them. I do like the stern section on the 260...and looks do count for something...maybe. If you can afford them. There are so few nice used boats in my area new as the only way to go and I have not been disappointed. Corky
