Probably ~$11000.00

Dont forget .... you have to change the engine beds, the fuel tank and fuel system, the prop and shaft. A precision rebuilt A4 replacement "shortblock" is ~$3500.00 Don Moyers "Maintenance and Rebuild Manual" is ~$50.00 includes evaluation for upgrade and rebuild, modernization etc. www.moyermarine.com ... the website also has a DIY forum for Atomic 4s hope this helps

11K is to much

A Universal M3-20B will cost less than 6K and a good yard should charge around 24-36 hours for the install. The shaft and prop can posibly be saved if you choose your engine right. I did an Alberg 30 Atomic 4 to Universal 25 and it ended up around 9k Pat McCartin Inland Marine Diesel Buford, Ga imd_ga@hotmail.com

Universal M320B

I am just now completing a replacement of an Atomic 4 with a Universal M320B on an Ericson 29. Total will be around 9,000. Engine was 7,000, other parts and accessories (muffler, fuel filter, cables, etc) around 1,000 and installation around 1,000. Engine beds only had to be built up an inch and a half because the mounts were not as tall. Oak epoxied together did this. I kept my shaft but replaced my 2 blade prop with a better matched 3 blade. Because of the different gear ratio you will likely want to replace your prop. I am having a guy who runs a mobile marine business do my install in my front yard. Taking longer than I wanted but the advantage is I can help with some of the work. This saves some money and it helps me know how everything is installed and works. Most of the controls and connections in my boat were old and really needed replacing anyway. New panel with all new wiring which was a mess to begin with. I had an aluminum tank so this was fine, just new fuel lines. Exhaust is completely replaced with a better configuration. All cooling and other lines replaced. Shifting cable had seized up so replaced shift and throttle. New batteries which I neeed anyway. While an Atomic 4 would have been an easier install I decided to go new diesel. I even considered going outboard. This one system on my boat is now brand new and will be solid for many years. With a rebuilt Atomic I am just afraid it would have needed work again. Now I have a reliable powerplant and resale value has gone up. I know I won't get my money back, I don't expect to, I just want a reliable system I can take advantage of until I ever, if ever, decide to sell. Good Luck.
