.................... are making a mess of my hull. I currently have Perko gasoline tank vents on the holding, diesel, and water tanks. They are chrome plated brass and were very spiffy eight years ago (shown in the top photo). They are now all corroded, with the holding tank one being the worst (shown in the bottom photo). Rainwater streaks the corrosion products down the hull in a holy mess. I suspect that the cause of the corrosion is the crew getting into the Bratwurst and beer but there seems to be little I can do about that. Has anyone come across a solid stainless steel vent fitting like this or (as beggars can't be choosers) a plastic vent fitting. Anything that won't corrode. Thanks in advance. s/v Island Hunter

try a thru-hull fitting

Ralph - I once read that you could try using a small thru-hull fitting and then cover it with a clam-shell vent cover. Those clam-shell covers should come in a variety of types (plastic, chrome, SS) and are easier to replace. Rob

It is possible that the vent cover is not grounded

and is deteriorating at a faster rate than the other thru hulls. You could also add another vent to the holding tank and use 'KO' in the tank as Peggy suggests in her book. Good luck in BC.
