correct propeller size

I have been using my Yamaha 8 HP long outbord for 8 years, and now it's time to change the propeller, being te outer edges of the blades completely disrupted by corrosion and cavitation (probably).The factory size is 8,5”X 7”, does anybody as experience with double thrust 9" x 5", wich being shorter should help also in backward motion ??Alberto,Canta che ti Passa

surface area

My experience with these small outboards on a dispacement boat is that there isn't enough surface area to provide traction. In fact, I am looking for a 4 blade for my 8HP nissan. My challenge is to get my 260 stopped on a windy day while returning to the boat lift, since a certain amount of speed is required to maintain control in the waves. It sounds like the prop change you would make would reduce the surface area.Jeff Peltier
