I have a Hunter 340 with 16x13 two blade prop. I am experiencing a lot of vibration at higher speeds. I have checked the alignment and shaft for trueness. Some suggested switching to a three blade prop. Any other suggstions?

340 Prop
I replaced the original prop on my 2000 H340 (3GM30F) about two years ago, installing a 3-blade RH Campbell Sailer 15 X 9 X 1. This was made upon the recommendation of the folks at West by North. I questioned them about the 1 inch reduction in the diameter and they responded that their prop is cupped and produces added thrust. They added that they had installed this prop on many H340s with good results. My boat cruises at just under 7 knots at 2,800 RPM. I also had some vibration at certain RPMs and that has disapeared with the new prop.

Thanks so much for your response. Can you get the engine up to 3600 rpm? I understand you have to be carefull with props not to overload the engine. I hear that you should be able to achieve around 3400 rpm. Did you purchase it through North by Northwest? Your cruising speed is far superior to my present cruising speed with my two blade. Chris, With the new prop, I have had the engine up above 3,200 RPM and could go higher but have not for fuel economy reasons. There is not much increase in boat speed above 3,000 RPM but engine temp, noise and fuel use all go up. The sweet spot on my boat is around 2,800 - 2,900 RPM. My original Tachometer was checked by a local Yanmar tech and is not too far off. The prop gives me plenty of thrust and I am very happy with it - no vibration, no soot, good boat speed. I bought it directly from West by North (see link) after discussing it with them and giving them all of my boat, engine and transmission specs. This is the second Campbell prop I have had (on two boats) and I think that they may be very very slightly under pitched. However, going to the next pitch size would probably be too much. They perform very well and it would not be worth the trouble and expense of making the "perfect" pitch adjustment to the prop.
