I am considering buying a used Coronado 15 that is all there except for the Rudder and the Centerboard. Of course I am a low budget sailor and it could be the cost of these parts will be more than the owner wants for the boat. I am a woodworker and could make a good facsimile but having OEM would be best to keep it sailing true. Does anyone happen to have them available for purchase?

IMO, unless you are really convinced you want a Coronado, walk away. Or really convinced you want to build something. I don't know if there's a robust Coronado class association that would help you with templates... or maybe someone has spare parts. I went to catalinadirect.com to poke around, and found they are selling centerboards for $500, and Ruddercraft replacement rudders (includes HDPE foil and headstock) for $479. They might have headstock castings, and tiller housings, and they definitely list foils, so you could build your own. http://www.catalinadirect.com/index...ry_id=&search_string=coronado&displaycount=60

Looks like the class association web page is being updated, so maybe you'll have better luck there: http://coronado15.org/joomla/

The Coronado 15 was originally built by Wesco but was sold to Frank Butler who later started Catalina Yachts. That boat was continued to be produced by Catalina for some time after but not sure when production ceased as Butler acquired Capri. Therefore your best bet to buy parts is thru Catalina Direct. Catalina Direct is not owned by Catalina. They sell parts for the Coronado 15 and if you look close, parts for example are identical to Capri and Catalina small boats

Original OEM parts are available at Catalina Yachts. Kick-up rudder $455 complete, $351 blade only. Centerboard $475. Made of FRP from original molds. Not HDPE.

Based on what I saw at Catalina Direct, they don't have the OEM rudder assembly available, but DO list the Ruddercraft replacement, which uses HDPE for the foil. They do sell fiberglass rudder foil, and they do list a cast AL headstock, but say "Call for availability."

Based on the original poster's self-classification as a "low budget sailor," I don't think any of the options at Catalina Direct are going to fit that criteria. :D

Best case scenario he could hope for are cheap used parts from someone at the class association.

Or, for the DIYer, he could HOPE that Catalina Direct has the headstock casting and the tiller head, and possibly centerboard brackets, then hope that the class association has templates and dimensions for foils, then go and fabricate his own tiller and foils out of laminated mahogany (not plywood!) That would be the mid-price option. (Plywood is dimensionally stable, but the 90º orientation of the plies make it unsuitable for the side-loading requirements of foils. Even BS1088 is not appropriate. It's only 1/2 the lateral strength of lengthwise laminated hardwood.)

For the expensive, keep-as-close-to-original-ist, find a headstock and tiller head assembly used, then purchase glass foils. Because I think that "call for availability and price" notation on Catalina Direct is somewhat ominous.

Or, for the expensive, just-get-her-in-the-water-ist, buy the Ruddercraft assembly, centerboard brackets, and centerboard foil.

Windborne, thank you for confirming. Catalina has their own store in Florida and the phone number is 727-544-6681 ext. 266. I am not sure if Skip still works there as many I knew were closing in on retirement age.

If your boat was built by Catalina, it will still be supported by the factory. Catalina Direct is a vendor. Catalina Yachts is the factory.

Joe, I was a catalina dealer and the Coronado 15 was built by Catalina . I think you may be thinking of the larger boats that Butler/Catalina sold off if memory serves me as he was concentrating on his own line but keeping the smaller ones as the other mfg. did not want the small boats. It is worth a call to call Catalina in the event Catalina Direct cannot help. The Catalina manufacturing plant in California was closed years ago with all production going to the Florida plant. Since I have been retired for some time and the fellow cannot get parts from Catalina Direct which is not owned by Catalina Yachts, I mentioned the Catalina Yachts store as Frank Butler insisted on availability of parts for boats manufactured years ago. Frank, Sharon, Gerry and Ron Frisosky(deceased) were good friends of mine.
