Does anyone know if transducers are interchangeable? I am getting MSD alarms on the unit. I have a transom mount. The original company only sells thru hull xducers.

generally if you stick with the same manufacturer the control head will work with either transducer.
You could try calling them and asking.

Most transducers are made by Airmar. Frequency is ultra sound. So almost all transducer works with any display.

I believe the Corinthian was pretty standard option for Macgregor of that era. I had one that gave me "---" on the display and alarm intermittently. It took me 3 years to find out the root cause. I even change the transducer.

At the back of the display there is a RCA plug for the transducer. The RCA socket connects to the circuit board with 2 push pin connectors. One of the connector has a bad crimp. I just solder it.

The way to confirm is to open up the display and wriggle the wires. In order to open up the unit, you'll have to unscrew the nut on the toggle switch. There are 3 tiny screws on the back side. You can then slide out the gut of the unit from the back.

You can shoot a thruhull transducer through the fibre glass bottom. Just glue it to the hull inside.

I associate "Corinthian" with the Datamarine S-200DL Depth Sounder. If you are getting an "MSD" reading on the dial, I believe it probably means one of the boards in the read-out unit has failed, not the transducer. You can have the unit repaired by sending it to DMI in Rhode Island. See www.DMIMarine.com
or give them a call and talk to Steve at 508-564-7491

I agree with Warren, I had great service from dmi for our depth sounder. Warren also has a picture I posted a while ago about how to get the instrument out. From my experience and reading a lot of the sailing boards, it's rarely the transducer.

I had my Datamarine S-200DL Depth Sounder rebuilt at DMI and they did an excellent job. Although I actually just use it now as a backup because my Chart plotter has it's own depth finder. there is a wire circular wire that fits in a groove that holds the instrument into the case.
