Cored or solid hull?

Looks like I will have to replace the factory Navico depth transducer on the 79-30' I bought last year. I've been told a thru hull is the best but a standard internal flush mount will work if the hull is solid glass. Did'nt plan to pull the boat out till sometime this winter. Can someone tell me if there is solid glass under the v-berth storage area or is it a cored hull? Thanks in advance for any responses. R. Bounds

Solid glass

All the Hunters of this era are solid glass for the hull, and cored for the deck. You could easily find a solid inch of glass on the bottom of your boat. David Lady Lillie

I was under the impression that the waterline is where the core starts, not the deck, or is that just the newer models?

solid hull

My '78 H30 didn't have a depth sounder when I bought her. Last year, I installed a Standard Horizon sounder with an in-hull puck just aft of the v-berth. That's on the port side, across the centerline from the factory knotmeter thru-hull. Works fine so far. Your hull should be solid glass below the waterline, just like mine is.
