Sandpaper for the Sandpaper Bottom
Mike: I have a friend who used the copperpoxy on his Hunter 30. The bottom was as solid as iron, but he said that it wasn't simple to apply. This might explain why your's is so rough. He sanded his to a very smooth finish.I am sure that you can sand to your heart's content provided that you do not sand through the paint and into the barrier coat. I purchased a 6", variable speed, random orbital sander from Porter-Cable for a bottom job a couple of years ago. (I provided a link to their site for that particular model.) I found a good price at Lowe's. You will need to get a softer disk attachment for sanding the uneven surfaces that the hull presents.Again, unless you plan on applying more paint, you might want to start slowly with the sand paper - probably no less than 150 grit. You will need LOTS of good quality sandpaper and the more often you change the paper, the faster the job will go. Get a good respirator and a pair of goggles. You are going to raise lots of nasty dust, so you might want to consider the dust collection option for the sander, as well. Good Luck! Ron
