To The OP

FWIW - I have been using Interlux ACT on the Upper Chesapeake for 5 years and have had very good results. ACT is neither the cheapest nor the most expensive. I think about $120/gal or so.

I sail out of the Sassafras and spend most weekends above the Bay Bridge. 3 weeks out of the summer we sail to the salt water in the lower bay. I get hauled and power washed every winter. I sand lightly with an 80 grit in the spring, wipe with Xylene, then put on a single overcoat. So far, so good.

(BTW: I had forgotten that SW-846 is one boring read!)

Regards.

HUA! And how utterly bogus the whole TCLP protocol is to this discussion...or real world toxicity in general. Possibly the worst lab protocol the EPA ever endorsed. Built in dilution error, easy to defeat.

So this interesting debate got me on ebay looking for copper oxide just to see how much it costs and if adding it to paint would help (environmental issues aside)

I did some googling and found another discussion on another forum

fstbttms: you seem to say on the other forum just adding copper to the paint won't help, if that is the case isn't it possible that buying paint by copper content could also be incorrect?

I am also upper Chesapeake looking for the best paint.

Well I use Trinidad, it works for me has lasted four seasons so far and has done and excellent job. Don't know what's in it ....don't really care. Of course I wipe down my hull every three weeks or so.

Apples and oranges, my friend. A kitchen sink chemist dumping copper powder into a can of paint will not achieve the same thing as the guy next door who bought a high-copper anti fouling paint. One doesn't work, the other does.

I used Trinidad before I began doing yearly winter land storage. It works very well in the middle Chesapeake. But Hydrocoat works as well for me, is easier to apply/cleanup, can withstand being out of water, and costs less. Trinidad is my base coat. It lets me know when the Hydrocoat wears off.
