We would like to go farther on a load of ice in the icebox on our '77 h27. Most of the power will come from shore charging of our house battery, since we have a small alternator, and most of our stops on Lake Erie are in marinas with shore power. The ideal set-up would be a 12 volt cold plate that we could retrifit into the box somehow. Then we could run it off the engine while motoring, and through the charger while tied up. Has anyone heard of a cool plate, or other retrofit that would work? David Lady Lillie

12 volt refridgeration

You're talking about systems like Adlar Barbour 12 volt compressors, I would guess. Adlar Barbour does make a holding plate, but the holding plate is not suitable for our applications. It's really more for fish boxes and things where armor plating is needed for ice picks, etc. It's not nearly as efficient as the normal evaporator. A normal evaporator is the only one you should consider. Adlar Barbour evaporators can be bought custom bent to the shape you want, although it isn't publicized. (I have one.) There are a number of other companies that make 12 volt systems. I know a little about the Adlar Barbours, nothing about the rest.
