My wife and I just bought our first sdailboat, a 1986 Hunter 25.5. While cleaning and making it ours, we discovered the cooler is very deep but looks like it possibly had a shelf half way at one time. Does anyone know if there is a shelf that is made that does in the cooler. I imagine it has holes to allow the ice to melt and drain to the drain hole. Any help would appreciated.

Shelf

My H 25.5 has a "smokey" or gray Acrylic (?) shelf with a bit of teak attached to the end to help keep thing from falling. If I remember correctly, the plastic material is about 1/4 inch thick. The teak is about an inch thick. You could rather easily make a template from cardboard and manufacture a new shelf (or borrow a shelf from another owner). Note the cooler empties ice melt into the bilge. I found this to be a problem and have used frozen milk jugs of water for ice to avoid water in the bilge.

A ha!

I also just purchased a 255 and am shelfless in the ice box. For now, I used a white 1/2" ceiling grid cut to the shape of the ledge. It'll let air circulate and is strong enough to hold a 12 pack of Corona (priorities).
